What does Development mean in India?

Influential cultural heritage, rich geographical features, and respect for all religions are the prominent qualities of India. If you measure the development of India on the global standards then you will determine, India must make a drastic improvement in its position.

But what is the meaning of development? Is it western definition or India should create her own?
Cultural and Social Development.

India has always struggled to provide relevant education to the society.

The communities and their needs are so diverse that the same kind of education system is not relevant to all. E.g. a city dweller working in MNC might have a different need fulfilled by the mainstream education systems. But what about people like migrant laborers. If there is a lack of education or direction to the children it would be very counterproductive to the same community.

The dilemma is due to their very specific situation they might not even find mainstream education relevant to them. It might be better to start with relevant education which can provide the light of knowledge and blaze the path of employment as soon as possible. That’s what motivated Archarya Chandra Bhushan Tiwari an education reformer and son of mother India to leave his government job for educating poor children of migrating labor. People like him need no appreciation; they are working for not just the upliftment of poor but also doing a great favor to the community.

The growth of the country directly or indirectly depends upon the development of people. Gone are the days when people believe the right of education solely belongs to the rich.  Now every person has an equal right to education. Even government has taken an initiative to light the candles of education in remote areas. “Sab padhe sab badhe” is one of most valued scheme in this direction.

Skill India or similar are aimed at skilling than the mainstream education which relies on the brittle system of examinations but never the relevance of education to ever changing society needs for employability.

What changes will it bring in society?

Many parts even the tier-2 cities of the country like Lucknow UP are still struggling to find their definition of development, like it was at the time of independence.

Relevant education which leads to enlightenment about their surroundings which includes environment and cultural practices will not only pave the path towards a sustainable development. But human resource can be employed for longer duration serving their local communities, will have a connect with the land and soil, helping with development and making it a better, peaceful and developed place with every generation. In this conquest this our responsibility to support reformers like Chandra Bhushan in their revolution.

Development based on political front

Politics is what weaves a community. Till now politics is never seen as a viable career option leading to a very opaque system where incentives are way ahead in future, this leads to corruption at every stage with people building oligarchies at every step of politics. Active collusion with businesses running their agendas is what we see very prevalent in current way of politics.

BallotboxIndia through its innovative initiative “janmela” is trying to make a dent into the situation. We interviewed some upcoming leaders of tomorrow like Mr Amal Kumar JDU, Mr. Abhinav Mishra AAP, Mr. Harilal Prasad CPIM on their ideas for tomorrow. The New India we want to see, and it was heartening to see how the grass root cadre and local leaders are contributing to the community. Not just with their time but their efforts. Their efforts many time go unnoticed like keeping their communities clean, working on proper sewerage, local employment and employee rights, disseminating information on various government schemes.

They play a vital role in the community.

BallotboxIndia through its various initiatives is assisting such leaders to connect with right problems which are directly effecting their constituency and developing right local parameters on what works and what doesn’t.

Wrap up

India needs real revolution in her social and political systems paradigm. We can’t keep following western models since they depend on countries like India to contribute with their natural resources, labor, land and their long-term sustainability in terms of water security, pollution and detached human resources. For India to develop her in a sustainable format for long term, the country needs to develop her own models and parameters.

BallotboxIndia is connecting community socio-political leaders with the problems of the land which are effecting common folks, building a long lasting connect, creating employment opportunities, building the work force of tomorrow, solving problems of local communities while preserving the rich heritage and culture.
